Somatic Experiencing (SET)

In SET, the therapist helps the individual gradually reconnect with bodily sensations associated with the traumatic event. By gently exploring these sensations in a safe and supportive environment, the individual can begin to discharge the energy that became trapped during the trauma. This process allows for the completion of the body’s natural fight, flight, or freeze response, leading to a sense of release and relief.

SET also involves building awareness of bodily cues and promoting self-regulation techniques to manage arousal levels. Through exercises and interventions tailored to the individual’s needs, SET aims to restore a sense of safety and empowerment.

Overall, Somatic Experiencing Therapy offers a non-invasive and body-centered approach to trauma healing, allowing individuals to process traumatic experiences and reclaim a sense of control over their lives.
